Following the reminder to the Motorsport UK community of COVID-19 protocols at Motorsport UK events, issued on Wednesday, we would like to reiterate the protocols for Clerks, Stewards and COVID-19 Officers to follow.

The Portuguese Government just announced a hard lockdown for the whole country starting on January 15^th, 2021, for the next two weeks minimum, following the rising Covid-19 cases. BRP-Rotax carefully reviewed all facts about the impact of this new situation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made 2020 a particularly difficult year for the entire world, including the motorsport family. Nevertheless, the FIA Karting Championships were able to take place with good sporting representativeness in compliance with health protocols.

In an ever-evolving 2020 schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the overlapping of race dates across the country, the World Karting Association (WKA) has combined a pair of events to alleviate a race weekend and potentially decrease costs for teams and competitors.

Having just completed its 25th year in 2019, the Xtream Rock Island Grand Prix kart race has announced a new partnership designed to ensure this great event continues for another 25 years. It was announced earlier this year that the race has been suspended for 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions but will return in 2021.

The Colorado Karting Tour finally kicked-off its season in the COVID-19 effected year at the beautiful Grand Junction Motor Speedway facility.

MSA is aware that the Regulations published on 28 May 2020 in the government gazette allow professional non-contact sport to continue under the published regulations “… as per directions issued by the Cabinet member responsible for sport….”. These directions are yet to be published.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and current travel restrictions, BRP-Rotax has decided to postpone the 2020 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals till January 2021, and to change the location to the city of Portimão in Portugal. The 2020 RMC Grand Finals will take place in Portimão, Portugal, from January 23 to January 30, 2021.

The Colorado Karting Tour finally kicked-off its season in the COVID-19 effected year at the beautiful Grand Junction Motor Speedway facility.  The GJMS facility has played host to several high profile events in its day as the facility offers a picturesque and challenging circuit which did not disappoint at the opening CKT event.

The ASN of Sweden, Svenska Bilsportförbundet, has informed the CIK-FIA that the organiser of the Swedish Competition of the FIA Karting European Championship - OK and Junior has had to resign itself to cancel the event scheduled from 9th to 12th July 2020 in Kristianstad (SWE) due to circumstances regarding the COVID-19.

Owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic, W Series, the international single-seater motor racing series for female drivers only, today announces that it will not stage on-track races until 2021. The decision not to proceed with W Series’ eight-race on-track programme for 2020 – which was scheduled to start in St Petersburg, Russia, on May 30 and finish in Mexico City, Mexico, on October 31 – has been taken in consultation with the FIA, F1, DTM and W Series’ partners and suppliers. However, plans are already in place for a bigger and better W Series season in 2021, including at least two races on the Formula 1 calendar, in Austin, Texas, USA, and in Mexico City, Mexico

At the foot of the Vesuvius volcano, the Circuito Internazionale Napoli in Sarno is a great venue for kart racing which has been regularly included in the FIA Karting Competition calendar for many years. Under the guidance of Giuseppe Sorrentino, both the site and the track are constantly being improved to the delight of the competitors, who often cite it as one of their favourite circuits.

Motorsport UK has announced that in anticipation of motorsport restarting in the UK from 4th July, it is inviting online permit applications from 1st June 2020. Motorsport is currently suspended throughout the UK until 30th June 2020. Following ongoing positive dialogue with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and having set out its strategy and anticipated conditions for restarting motorsport disciplines, the governing body is now moving to its next phase of getting the sport back on track. Further details will be communicated following the next Motorsport UK Board meeting of 3rd June.

Karting season by WSK is set to restart from Adria on July 5th with a new calendar after the long stop due to the Covid-19 emergency. A new racing format will be proposed in some occasions. The complete calendar will include the final races of WSK Super Master Series and the WSK Euro Series, WSK Open Cup and WSK Final Cup.   

As we continue to monitor issues surrounding COVID-19, we are faced with a very dynamic and ever-changing situation, both professionally and in our personal lives. As we follow the advice of our government and health officials regarding how to best deal with the current crisis, it is obvious that we will need to postpone our season-opening event.

With businesses begin opened under ‘Phased’ steps  the outlook for returning to racing in many parts of the country has already begun.  Unfortunately, the state New York, which has been most heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic (mainly New York City) has caused the entire state be on a lengthened return to normalcy.

Since our last club events were held on the 15^th March 2020, before Covid-19 came along, we have all been forced to adapt to a different way of living. We have all been required to dramatically change the way we do things in our personal life, our businesses, our careers and we are all missing the sports and recreational activities we enjoyed so much prior to Covid-19.
