Italian F4: The final battle at Imola before the summer break

Fifth round out of seven at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, then the summer break and finally the season’s decisive rush

Everything is ready for a weekend full of emotions during the sixth ACI Racing Weekend of 2025. Among the stars of the weekend of August 3rd will be the Tatuus cars of the Italian F.4 Championship, ready to roar in the last round before the August summer break. After Imola, the championship will resume in September and return once more in October for the grand season finale.

In the first four rounds, an average of 40 cars per event have hit the track, with drivers representing 29 countries, supported by 13 teams and numerous Formula 1 academies. Once again, the show in Imola promises to live up to expectations. Leading the overall standings is Kean Nakamura-Berta, representing Prema Racing, who dominated the first part of the championship. However, the Japanese-Slovak driver cannot afford to let his guard down: while his main rival at the beginning was his teammate Sebastian Wheldon, other contenders have gradually emerged. Among them stands out Gabriel Gomez, the ace up US Racing’s sleeve. The Kerpen-based team, led by Gerhard Ungar and Ralf Schumacher, has fielded a very competitive line-up, but the Brazilian has shone above all: one win and six podiums so far, at least one in each round.

At the last round at Mugello, Alex Powell from R-ace GP also made headlines. The Jamaican-American Mercedes junior claimed two wins and a podium, stealing the show in Tuscany and jumping to fourth in the standings, ahead of his teammate Emanuele Olivieri.

Olivieri, the leading Italian and already crowned 2025 F4 Middle-East champion, has consistently been among the best. Throughout the early rounds, he was a regular on the podium, and narrowly missed stepping on it again at Mugello. Now, he is ready to fight at Imola for more valuable points.

Despite Nakamura-Berta’s seven victories, his rivals have managed to keep his lead in check: his advantage over the Wheldon-Gomez duo (both on 154 points) is 59 points. The three races in Imola will therefore be crucial for the rest of the season.

Tight battles in all classes

Equally fierce is the fight for the Rookie Trophy, with Salim Hanna (Prema Racing) currently leading on 212 points. The Colombian, however, must watch out for his Chinese teammate Newman Chi, trailing by 35 points. Third, with 144 points, is Marcus Saeter from Van Amersfoort Racing. Many rookies have swapped places on every step of the podium: Artem Severiukhin (Jenzer Motorsport), Australian Dante Vinci (Van Amersfoort Racing), Oleksandr Bondarev (Williams Driver Academy of Prema Racing), Romanian David Cosma-Cristofor (PHM Racing), Polish driver Aleksander Ruta (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Danish David Walther (Maffi Racing), a testament to the high level of competition in the class dedicated to rising stars.

The fight for the female trophy remains wide open too: Emily Cotty (R-ace GP) leads, holding just an 11-point advantage over Californian Payton Westcott (Van Amersfoort Racing). Third is Poland’s Kornelia Olkucka (Maffi Racing).

The weekend schedule

The weekend will kick off on Thursday, July 31st, with a day of collective testing from 9:00 AM to 10:55 AM and from 2 PM to 3:55 PM. On Friday, August 1st, there will be two 40-minute free practice sessions (at 9:00 AM and 1:20 PM), followed by qualifying: Q1 from 6:10 PM to 6:25 PM and Q2 from 6:35 PM to 6:50 PM. The two sessions will determine the starting grids for Race 1 and Race 2, while the Race 3 grid will be defined by each driver’s second-best lap time.

On Saturday, August 2nd, Race 1 will start at 11:40 AM (30 minutes + 1 lap), followed by Race 2 at 6:40 PM (30 minutes + 1 lap). The final race of the weekend, Race 3, will start on Sunday, August 3rd, at 12:00 PM (30 minutes + 1 lap).

The first two races will be broadcast live on ACI Sport TV (Sky channel 228 and Tivùsat channel 52), while Race 3 will be shown as a delayed broadcast on Sunday evening. All races will also be available via live streaming on live.acisport.it and on ACI Sport TV’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
