Sodikart one-two in KZ2, Orlov pulls clear in the championship

The Sodikart Racing Team leaves Lonato with a strong result. At the South Garda Karting circuit, the venue for the second round of the 2026 WSK Euro Series, the team secured a top-two finish in KZ2 with Max Orlov taking the win and Senna Van Walstijn finishing 2nd to complete the Sodikart one-two. In Mini Gr3, Cees Muijs delivered his best performance of the season with a 2nd place in Prefinal A before finishing 11th in the Final. The Euro Series resumes in Cremona on 11th July for the third and final round.

KZ2: Unchallenged dominance

Max Orlov gave his rivals no chance this weekend. Pole position in Qualifying (45.043, a lap record), victory in two of the three heats, success in Prefinal B with the fastest lap, then a dominant Final with the fastest lap of the race in 45.335. He scored 127 points at Lonato, taking his championship tally to 177. He heads to Cremona with a 40-point lead over his nearest rival, his CPB Sport team-mate Dion Van Werven.

Senna Van Walstijn, who qualified 2nd, 70 thousandths of a second behind Orlov, won his three consecutive heats before a crash in Prefinal A that could have jeopardised his place in the Final. He secured 2nd place on the grid and held that position at the finish, 1.961 seconds behind the winner - 64 championship points after just one race.

Matteo Spirgel was also competing in his first race in the WSK Euro Series, having missed the round at Viterbo. He finished 8th in the Final after improving throughout the weekend.

For CPB Sport, Dion Van Werven remains 2nd in the championship with 137 points despite a difficult Final (12th). His 3rd place in Prefinal A demonstrated that his potential remains intact. Jenson Graham is 4th in the championship with 99 points. It is worth noting that all twelve drivers fielded by CPB Sport at Lonato made it through to the Final, a 100% qualification rate on a track that remains selective regardless of the field.

Paul Bizalion, team principal of CPB Sport, reflected on the weekend

“It’s a superb overall performance. We’ve remained unbeaten in KZ for quite some time now, with a win in every WSK event this season, at least two riders on the podium in every round, and 100% of our entrants qualifying for the Final at Lonato. Orlov was impressive, and I must emphasise that Emilien Denner really gave us a run for our money; he undoubtedly deserved to be on the podium with us before his breakdown. All our drivers have given us complete satisfaction. We have secured the top two places in the championship, with Dion van Werven in 2nd position. We’ll be heading to Cremona to win. But before that, I’m really looking forward to being in Genk for the opening round of the European Championship, and to seeing whether the work done with our young KZ2 drivers will bear fruit. I’m fully aware that the competition will be very tough, but our ambitions remain undiminished.”

Mini Gr3: Muijs on the rise

In Mini Gr3, 53 drivers competed in a category that remains highly competitive. Cees Muijs had his best weekend of the season. After a quiet performance at Viterbo, he showed a different side to himself at Lonato: he finished 2nd in Prefinal A - the best result for Sodikart in Mini Gr3 - before finishing 11th in the Final. Not the result they were aiming for, but the pace to do significantly better was there.

Amine Pantoli suffered several incidents during the race, retiring early on the sixth lap of the Final. Alfie Garrett, who was very quick in Free Practice, missed out on Qualifying and failed to reach the Final, despite a Prefinal in which he climbed 15 places and set the fastest Sector 3 time in the group.

Team manager Adrien Leidinger gave his immediate reaction:

“It had started rather well for Pantoli and Muijs, finishing 10th and 2nd respectively in their qualifying groups. Cees started from the front row in every heat; a collision dropped him down the order, but he managed to finish 3rd in his Super Heat and start 9th in the Final. The start didn’t go his way; he found himself 16th on the first lap and finished 12th - not the result he deserved given his pace. For Alfie Garrett, the Free Practice sessions were very promising - 3rd fastest on the first evening, 2nd the next day - but he missed out in Qualifying, which complicated matters for the rest of the event. What matters is that our development continues; the latest chassis produced by the factory proved entirely satisfactory in this second round. We are now looking ahead to the Italian Championship next week, on this same track, with a different type of tyre."
