Karter Jay Leverton steps up to GB4 with Idola Motorsport

Karting graduate Jay Leverton has been confirmed as the first driver in Idola Motorsport’s line-up for the 2026 GB4 Championship.

The 16-year-old, who hails from Stoke-on-Trent, announced his plans for the season at a launch event held at Stoke City FC’s Bet365 Stadium this afternoon (Thursday), where the distinctive livery for his Tatuus MSV GB4-025 car was also unveiled. Leverton has been karting competitively since 2021, after he joined the TeamSport Indoor Karting Cadet Academy.

He then won the British Indoor Karting Championship local finals in consecutive years and was the Total Karting Zero Junior Northern Champion in 2022. Moving to outdoor competition in 2023, he has raced in the National Karting Cup Championship and Superone Series in the Junior Rotax division.

While continuing his ascent through the karting ranks, Jay began preparations for the switch to car racing with simulator sessions at the Young Racing Driver Academy from 2023 onwards. He then commenced a real life testing programme with Idola Motorsport at the start of 2025, with significant GB4 mileage accrued at Anglesey and Donington Park most recently.

Having demonstrated his potential, Leverton will now make the leap up to car racing full time, with his debut race coming at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on 25-26 April.

Jay Leverton: “I am really excited to be joining Idola Motorsport for the GB4 2026 season after a great testing program. Idola Motorsport has more than 20 years of racing experience and is well known for doing an excellent job. I believe that with their strong reputation and my passion for racing, we can work well together and achieve some incredible results on the track. I can't wait to see what this season has in store for us!”

Idola Motorsport Co-Owner & Team Manager, John Whatley: “We are excited for Jay to continue his pathway with Idola Motorsport for the 2026 season. After spending 2025 within our testing program, Jay has increased his speed and consistency throughout, and we can’t wait to see how his performance develops on track in 2026 with the team.”
