Season resumes for California Prokart Challenge, competitors head to Marina to contest Round Four of Superkarts! USA flagship regional
TEMECULA, CA – The second half of the 2019 California ProKart Challenge begins this weekend as the Superkarts! USA regional program heads to Marina Airport Kart Track on July 13-14. The Monterey Bay Karters are set to welcome the leading California karting regional program with the fourth round of the championship series. Located just miles from the coast, competitors will be able to enjoy the cool and clear weather near Monterey, contesting the ‘B’ track layout at just over 1/2-mile long.
The win streak remains intact for Billy Musgrave in the Croc Promotion USA/Mad Old Nut Pro Shifter category with nine straight victories dating back to the 2018 opener. His perfect score was broken up in Round Three by missing out on P1 in qualifying. However, the winning streak continues heading into Monterey. Brett Harrelson in Bell Helmets S4 Super Master Stock Moto and Jesus Vasquez Jr. in Ace High Designs Mini Swift have three race wins streaks as well. Harrelson has also jumped to the top of the standings in the Empire Karts X30 Master class with two wins at the double header in CalSpeed. Stuart Hayner (AiM Sports X30 Super Master), Oliver Calvo (Doran Motorsports Group KA100 Senior), Josh Pierson (Allen Berg Racing Schools KA100 Junior), Vicente Salas (Honda Racing/HPD S3 Novice Stock Moto), and John Crow (Alpinestars G1) all have two wins on the year to lead their respective championship chases heading into the second half of the year.
Mike Smith won both the main events at CalSpeed in the International Kart Federation-sponsored KA100 Master division, but it is Round One winner Ricardo Arruda who leads the championship chase. The same scenario sits in the Evinco Tires S5 Junior Stock Moto standings, with Jacob Yesnick winning both rounds in Fontana while Mathias Coito holds the top spot in the standings with three straight podium finishes.
Three different drivers have won in the Musgrave Racing Company Pro Shifter 2 division. Emon Fazlollahi won Round Two and leads the standings over Round One winner Micah Hendricks. Royal McKee is the third victor of the season, sitting sixth in the points. The Nash Motorsportz X30 Junior division is another with three different winners on the year. Branyon Tiner won the latest round, and holds the championship lead over Round Two victor Josh Pierson. Carson Morgan won the opener and sits fifth in the standings, as the top-five are only separated by just 96 points. The Rolison Performance Group X30 Senior division is another title chase that could go down to the wire in 2019 with three different winners already. Round One victor Ryan Norberg remains at the top of the standings, with Billy Musgrave second after winner Round Two. Hannah Greenemeier made her series debut in 2019 at CalSpeed, winning Round Three. The top four drivers in the standings, including defending champion Joseph Daniele and Jacob Gulick, are separated by only 200 points – with plenty of racing left in the chase.
Defending IAME USA West Micro Swift champion Graham Trammell remains at the top of the standings, earning two third-place results after winning Round One. Logan Chambers doubled up in CalSpeed and sits fifth in the standings, with Alex Mercado as the top challenger in the chase at the halfway point.
Tuesday, July 9 is the final day of pre-registration for the fourth round of the California ProKart Challenge. The deadline is at 11:59pm PDT for online registration. California PKC pricing remains at $325 for race entry and stamped race tires. A SKUSA membership is required to register and compete, and a Friday ‘optional’ practice day is being offered by the Monterey Bay Karters. Move-in for the weekend in Marina begins on Thursday noon to 6:00pm, and resumes Friday morning at 9:00am. Registration and the tire desk will open on Friday from 3:00 to 6:00pm for ‘Early-Bird’ check-in and tire pickup. Pit spot reservations are also highly recommended and very affordable. PKC has also adjusted the class specs for G2 to 45+ years of age and 420 pounds, hoping to attract some additional competitors to the category on the IAME SSE 175cc engine.
