SJM Theodore PREMA Racing announces 2025 Macau Grand Prix entry

SJM Theodore PREMA Racing will extend its decades-long history at the Macau Grand Prix in November in the 72nd edition of the world-famous event. The team, founded by Teddy Yip Sr. in 1973, is aiming to extend its winning record at the famous Guia Circuit.

The Macau Grand Prix is set to add another exciting chapter to the history of the event with the 2025 FIA FR World Cup, which will again showcase the world’s most promising and competitive young drivers. Developing emerging talent is a task in which Theodore Racing has long excelled, having welcomed to its ranks numerous F1 talents throughout its history; from the legendary world champions Ayrton Senna and Mika Hakkinen to Grand Prix winners Rubens Barrichello and Eddie Irvine as well as numerous F1 drivers including current stars Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll, Theodore’s heritage is rich and deeply interwoven in the history of motor racing.

Mr Teddy Yip Jr. – Team President

“We are delighted to return to the Macau Grand Prix for the 72nd edition of this unique event, and honoured to continue our amazing partnership with SJM, a brand that is as iconic as the race itself. Our connection with the Grand Prix runs deep, and we look forward to the chance of adding another success to our roll of honour. I have full trust in our stellar trio of drivers and our great team. Let’s get this done!”

SJM Resorts, S.A. ("SJM") returns as a title partner for the team, continuing one of the most iconic and successful associations in the history of the sport. The strong combination of great passion and shared values will add even more anticipation for the great race.

Ms Daisy Ho – Managing Director of SJM

“SJM is proud to continue our partnership with Theodore PREMA Racing for the 11th year, a team whose legacy at the Macau Grand Prix echoes our own deep-rooted commitment to nurturing talents. We are thrilled to support this world-class lineup that brings together local pride and international talent. Through this long-standing collaboration, we reaffirm our dedication to contribute meaningfully to Macau’s long-term development as a destination for elite sport and tourism.”

SJM Theodore PREMA Racing will rely on a three-car lineup featuring some of the hottest stars in junior single-seaters.

Driving the #31 car and defending local interest in the event, two-time Macau GP winner Hon Chio (Charles) Leong will make a highly anticipated return to the event. The 24-year-old Macanese took back-to-back victories for Theodore at Macau in 2020 and 2021, and this year helped steer SJM Theodore Racing to a dominant title success in the 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series, clinching the title with two races to go. He will be competing again on his home track, where he debuted back in 2018, and in front of the passionate home fans.

British sensation Freddie Slater will drive the #11 Tatuus-developed car. The 17-year-old racer secured the 2024 Italian Formula 4 title with a record 15 wins to his name. This year, Freddie has starred in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine Championship, which he is currently leading.

Hailing from Abu Dhabi, Rashid Al Dhaheri will be competing aboard the #12 car. The 17-year-old Emirati was a podium finisher in the 2023 Macau Formula 4 Race and made an impressive debut in the Grand Prix last year. He is currently committed to a successful rookie Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine campaign.

Mr Rene Rosin - Team Principal

“We cannot wait to be back to Macau. We have so many great experiences from the Grand Prix, and we always feel privileged to partner with Theodore Racing and SJM. I think our lineup is impressive. We have one of the world’s most successful young talents, one of the most outstanding rookies from last year’s GP, and a home hero with two Macau wins in his resume. We are very motivated and already working as hard as possible to prepare for the race.”
