Owen Tangavelou inks Eurocup-3 deal with MP Motorsport

Vietnamese-licensed racer Owen Tangavelou has joined MP Motorsport for the team’s second season in Eurocup-3. The talented 18-year-old who will embrace his Asian roots as he continues to climb the single-seater ladder is the third driver to be announced for a seat with the Dutch team in the fledgling series aiming to expand further into Europe in 2024.

Tangavelou returns to MP after having a spell with the team in the 2023 Formula Regional Middle East Championship (FRMEC), taking in three races in preparation for his regular season in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA). Now, the Vietnamese driver hopes to put his experience at FRECA level to good use to develop into a strong contender in the Eurocup-3 series. Tangavelou will have the previously announced Bruno Del Pino and Emerson Fittipaldi Jr as his teammates.

“Signing with MP Motorsport for the Eurocup-3 season is great news for me”, said Tangavelou. “The inaugural season for the series proved to be a success, as it established and confirmed the reputation of some of the most talented young drivers around. With the Eurocup-3 calendar now not just including Spa and Zandvoort, but Paul Ricard, Portimão and the Red Bull Ring as well, it’s going to be a great season, especially when working with a frontrunning team such as MP Motorsport.”

“I’m proud to have a driver of Owen’s calibre join our Eurocup-3 effort for 2024”, said MP Motorsport’s team principal, Sander Dorsman. “He has demonstrated his talent on many occasions in the past two FRECA seasons, and now instead of being our adversary, we are going to have him on our team. We worked together well during that Yas Marina weekend in FRMEC in early 2023, and hope to pick up where we left off. With the combined efforts of Owen, Bruno, and Emerson, we will surely be challenging at the front in Eurocup-3.”

Tangavelou made his single-seater debut in 2020 and finished fifth in his second season of French F4 in 2021. Moving up to FRECA for 2022 and 2023, Owen regularly established himself as a frontrunner with several top-five finishes. Meanwhile, Tangavelou also participated in FRMEC and the Formula Regional Asian Championship certified by FIA.
