Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine returns to action in Barcelona

The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine heads to Spain for the eighth and antepenultimate round of the 2025 season, taking place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, also home to the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

After an intense double-header at the Red Bull Ring, where the competition once again proved fierce and closely matched, the fight for the title is heating up. Freddie Slater (Prema Racing) arrives in Catalunya as the championship leader with 198 points, holding a narrow three-point advantage over Matteo De Palo (Trident Motorsport). The Italian driver returned to winning ways in Austria and remains one of the most consistent performers on the grid.

Still in strong contention is Enzo Deligny (R-ace GP), who not only stood on the podium in Spielberg but also claimed victories earlier this season at both Spa-Francorchamps and Imola. The French driver currently sits third in the standings, just ahead of Brazil’s Pedro Clerot (Van Amersfoort Racing), who celebrated his second win of the year in Austria and continues to display strong form.

Fifth overall is Akshay Bohra (R-ace GP), another race winner this season and a constant threat in the lead group. Meanwhile, Evan Giltaire (ART Grand Prix), Rashid Al Dhaheri (Prema Racing), and Hiyu Yamakoshi (Van Amersfoort Racing) remain in contention to finish the season among the top positions. Also worth keeping an eye on is Nikita Bedrin (Saintéloc Racing), who has claimed two podium finishes in the last three races, and Japanese driver Taito Kato (ART Grand Prix), a regular presence in the midfield battles and known for his strong comebacks. Jin Nakamura, another familiar face at R-ace GP, joined teammate Deligny on the podium in Spielberg, while Jack Beeton (Prema Racing) and Kanato Le (ART Grand Prix) continue to chase the leading group. In the rookie ranks, Dion Gowda (Van Amersfoort Racing) still leads the classification. In the midfield, Michael Belov continues to lead the efforts of CL Motorsport. The squad will once again field Enea Frey in Spain, who made his debut last time out at the Red Bull Ring and is set to continue his growth in the final part of the season.

Track action will begin on Friday with two Collective Test sessions, scheduled for 09:48 and 15:15 respectively.
