The first Competition of the FIA Karting European Championship - OK & Junior was an exciting race under the sun and heat of northern Spain. The fast Zuera circuit was a major contributor to the intensity of the spectacle thanks to its overtaking-friendly layout. Tuukka Taponen (FIN) in Junior and Kimi Antonelli (ITA) in OK only started 9th and 4th respectively in the Final, but they were able to step up the pace to cross the finish line as winners.

After the morning warm-ups in the two categories of OK and OK-Junior, no less than 20 heats followed one another on the second official day of the FIA Karting European Championship, with the same main theme: very close gaps between the Drivers, exciting duels and plenty of overtaking. At Zuera in Spain, Arvid Lindblad took the lead of the provisional Junior standings, while Taylor Barnard confirmed his pole position in OK. However, we will need to wait until the last Heats on Sunday morning to find out the definitive starting order for the Finals.

It's hard to see the smiles under the masks, but the Drivers returned to International Competition with great pleasure and excitement for the opening of the FIA Karting European Championship - OK & Junior, organised from 30th July to 2nd August in Spain, on the Zuera circuit. Undoubtedly due to the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic and the difficulty of moving from one country to another for some of them, the number of entrants announced could not be maintained at the level hoped for by the organisers, with a total of 130 drivers present out of the 183 registered. The young Driver Valerio Rinicella (ITA - Parolin/TM Racing/LeCont) was the fastest in OK-Junior and Taylor Barnard (GBR - KR/IAME/LeCont) achieved a magnificent pole position in OK.

The first 3 drivers of both qualifying sessions are Italian: Minì, Pizzi, Fornaroli and Rosso. A lot of Italy in the two qualifying sessions of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth. Minì (Prema Powerteam) confirms the expectations and marks the best times of both sessions (1'35.121 - 1'34.537), in both followed by Pizzi (Van Amersfoort Racing, 1'35.160 - 1'34.652). In third position in qualifying 1, we find an excellent Fornaroli (Iron Lynx - 1'35.197) and in qualifying 2, Rosso (1'34.752). It is also striking that all the drivers in the lead are Rookies.

The contenders at FIA Karting European Championship - OK & Junior Competitions are of an excellent level, both in number and quality. 183 Drivers, 88 in OK and 95 in Junior, have registered for the FIA Karting European Championship - OK & Junior. They represent 43 nations and four continents, and hopefully all of them will have the opportunity to travel to Spain for the occasion, as international travel is still subject to some restrictions depending on country of origin.

The curtain-raiser is just a few days away, and a new season of ADAC Formula 4 is about to start. This coming weekend (31st July - 2nd August), the Lausitzring will be hosting the first three races of the campaign in parallel with the 2020 ADAC GT Masters. Every weekend, SPORT1 will be showing at least one race live on free-to-air TV, and the action can also be followed on SPORT1+. International Karting has finally returned on the eve of the 1st FIA race of the season: the European Championship for the OK and OK Junior classes, which this year due to COVID-19, will be held over 3 races instead of 4 after the cancellation of the scheduled race in Kristianstad, Sweden. Spain also risked to be cancelled due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the region of Aragón, but the FIA promoter managed to confirm the event and, albeit with many precautions, without the public as spectators and with many drivers being absent, the season will officially begin. After Spain, the season events move to the Italian track in Sarno on August 23rd and will close in Germany in Wackersdorf on September 13th.
