WSK Final Cup - the provisional classifications after the first round in Lonato (I)

The first Classification Leaders of WSK Final Cup after round one in Lonato: Powell (JAM – ENERGY-TM 60 MINI), Barnard (GB – KR-PARILLA OKJ), Travisanutto (I – KR-PARILLA OK) and Lammers (NL – SODI-TM KZ2) are the drivers to beat at the second round in Castelletto di Branduzzo (I) on November 11th.

Who issued the challenge in WSK Final Cup.
The end of 2018 challenge is on and the first pecking order of WSK Final Cup has been drawn after round one. The chequered flag of Lonato (BS) being waved, the focus has switched on to classifications now. The strategies have to be quickly defined in the short time separating all the races of this WSK Series, eying the round of Castelletto di Branduzzo (PV) on November 8-11th and the closer in Adria (RO). An increasing scoring system will reward the results of qualifying heats, Prefinals and Finals and every point scored in the three rounds will count.

Bas Lammers: flying start in KZ2.

The Dutch Bas Lammers (SodiKart-TM-Bridgestone) claimed all the points up for grabs in KZ2. In qualifying his teammate from France Anthony Abbasse seemed to have the upper hand, but Lammers beat his rivals in the heats and Prefinal, in the latter leading Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart-Vortex). The Dutch driver had the Finn Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart-Vortex) as his main rival in the Final. Puhakka challenged him all the way to the flag. The win allowed Lammers (in the photo on top) to reach 90 points, while Ardigò totalled 46 points thanks to the P3 in the Final. Puhakka is one point short of the Italian in P3 at 45. The French driver Emilien Denner (Kalì Kart-TM) and the Italian Matteo Viganò (Tony Kart-Vortex) have been shining and now stand, respectively, fourth and fifth at 30 and 27 points.

Alex Powell, from Jamaica to the top of 60 Mini.

It has been a great exploit for Alex Powell (Energy-TM-Vega, above #527) at South Garda Karting. Travelling from his Jamaica has given the young Alex wings, who did not leave any room to his strong rivals of 60 Mini. Powell did not do anything else than winning, from qualifying heats to Prefinal and Final, which made him the first leader scoring the full haul of 90 points. The position of the Jamaican driver is not that comfortable though, as he is chased by the Italian Brando Badoer (Parolin-TM), a rival that won Prefinal B in Lonato, envisaging further progress in the following two rounds. His starting point will be the 69 points scored in Lonato. The British driver Coskun Irfan (Parolin-TM) is the third to keep an eye on, as he stands third at 48 points after the second place claimed in Prefinal. The Dane Julius Dinesen and the Belgian Ean Eyckmans (both on Parolin-TM) follow at 31 points, as they made it into the top three of Lonato’s Prefinals.

Taylor Barnard leading OK Junior.

Big changes happened in the OK Junior standings. New Zealand’s James Wharton (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) dominated qualifying heats but had to stop two laps into Prefinal A. The British driver Taylor Barnard (KR-Parilla, in the photo above) did not miss this chance and recovered up to the victory of Prefinal A, before claiming the win of the Final and taking the classification lead at 84 points. Behind him, Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart-Vortex) is second at 53 points, despite a bad result in the heats risked ruining his entire weekend in Lonato. A great result allowed the young Russian to clinch P2 of the Final. He certainly will be among the favourites to the win in the next rounds. The Russian Kirill Smal (Tony Kart-Vortex, 31 p.) and the Italian Gabriele Minì (Parolin-TM, 25p.) follow after being among the protagonists of the Final.

Lorenzo Travisanutto, full haul in OK.

The Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto (KR-Parilla-Bridgestone, above) is another driver that scored the full haul. The long list of wins secured in OK’s heats and Finals took him on top of the classification at 90 points. The final stages have been good also for the Dutch Kas Haverkort (CRG-TM), who won Prefinal B and was second behind Travisanutto in the Final and in the classification at 63 points. Luigi Coluccio (BirelArt-TM) also had a great start and stands now third at 46 points after being third in Prefinal A and in the Final. The Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (CRG-TM) and the British driver Dexter Patterson (KR-Parilla) follow equal on points at 29.
