The MP Group has further strengthened its position in the Northern European karting scene by acquiring Chrono Karting, the leading organiser in Dutch karting with the Dutch 2-stroke (Dutch Rotax Max Challenge) and 4-stroke championships among its portfolio. With the acquisition of Chrono Karting, the MP Group aims to enable Dutch karting talent to make the transition to motor racing in a structured and professionally supervised manner.
Under its motto 'Accelerating Talent', the MP Group has been active on the single-seater ladder to Formula One for 30 years through its motor racing team MP Motorsport, so closer ties with Chrono Karting fit in perfectly with MP’s motto.
Earlier in 2025, the MP Group acquired the legendary karting track in Genk, a takeover that is in line with the same ambition. As at Genk, the existing management at Chrono Karting will remain in place.
The agreement was reached after Henk de Jong of the MP Group and Gaby van de Burgt of Chrono Karting entered into discussions about the future of karting in the Netherlands. Van de Burgt was impressed by De Jong’s ideas, which focus on a logical step-by-step plan for organisers and competitors in karting.
“I didn’t want to just give up the organisation that has been my baby for 15 years,” said Van de Burgt, “But Henk’s plans convinced me as, above all, they counteract fragmentation which is not good for karting. Creating more slices won’t make a bigger pie, it only leads to everyone losing out. The Netherlands should have a few rock-solid organisations that maintain the sport’s health under the auspices of the Dutch federation, thanks to properly structured layers from karting school to club level, national level, the European Championship and, ultimately, motor racing.”
"That’s how you assemble all the building blocks. Now that we can share our knowledge, the Karting Champions League will also be able to become stronger. The Netherlands has everything it takes to become a solid foundation for a healthy karting scene in Northern Europe – and I am happy to commit myself to that.”
“With Chrono Karting, a highly renowned organiser is joining the group, one that has proven its ability to organise top-level competitions,” said Henk de Jong, “Many Dutch and Belgian drivers who have competed for MP Motorsport over the past 30 years started their careers at Chrono Karting. Gaby will, of course, continue to organise the existing championships for 2-stroke and 4-stroke karts, but she can also help us lift the Karting Champions League to an even higher level. In this way, we will ultimately strengthen karting throughout Northern Europe, a goal we at MP have been working towards for several years.”
Chrono Karting is the organiser of the United Kart Series/Dutch Rotax Max Challenge for 2-stroke karts and the Dutch Championship for 4-stroke karts. The two Dutch Open Winter Series for 2-stroke and 4-stroke karts also fall under the wings of Chrono Karting. In addition, the organisation is at the helm of the Dutch Karting School. All competitions organised by Chrono Karting take place under the auspices of the Dutch federation.
