Gabriele Minì handed himself and PREMA Racing the first podium of the year

Gabriele Minì handed himself and PREMA Racing the first podium of the year in FIA Formula 2 at Monte Carlo, as the Sprint Race was completed at the famous street venue today.

The Italian started from third place on the grid and moved up one spot at the start. Then he began to chase the leading car, although with the track not leaving many passing opportunities, he could not find his way past despite a speedy pace. The race featured an early safety-car situation that didn't provide particular chances to the drivers, and every move would have carried its threats. Minì eventually finished in P2 to claim valuable points.

Sebastian Montoya also had a solid race starting from P6, and kept himself away from the lap-1 shenanigans. The Colombian American posted P6 and a good points finish at the end of the day. He is now set to take off from P5 in the Feature Race.

Sebastian Montoya

"Sprint Race just finished here in Monte Carlo. We got a bit compromised at the start, and I was sandwiched in the first corner, so I had to back down, losing a position. Then I tried to cool down to push for the fastest lap, but the right situation did not materialise. Still, very good positives to take from today and learn on to improve and maximise tomorrow."

Gabriele Minì

"We gained a position straight away at the start, and it was a pretty decent one. We had quite a strong pace, and I was following, trying to put pressure on Kush and go for the fastest lap at the end. Of course, the tyres were quite gone at that point, after following for so long. We still showed good pace, and we are now looking forward to tomorrow's Feature Race."

Qualifying: P4 Gr.A

Fastest lap: 1:21.581
Starting Position Race 1: P2
