Paul Ricard delivers two intense test days as FIA Formula Regional European Championship edges closer to the season opener

FIA Formula Regional European Championship wrapped up two highly productive test days at Circuit Paul Ricard, with all 10 teams expected on the 2026 grid out in force ahead of the season opener at the end of April.

Track action was relentless across both days, offering the first real glimpse of a full-field battle in preparation for what promises to be a fiercely contested campaign. Unlike the previous outing at Hockenheim, the French venue welcomed teams with clear skies throughout, despite strong winds and chilly temperatures.

Gabriel Gomez emerged as the outright pace-setter over the two days. The Rodin Motorsport driver set the quickest time of 1:56.401 in the opening day’s afternoon session. Earlier that morning, the 19-year-old Brazilian had shown strong form by finishing third, behind Marcus Saeter (G4 Racing) and 2025 French F4 champion Alexandre Munoz, with the latter putting ART Grand Prix at the top of the timesheets with a 1:56.672.

Kicking off the second day was reigning Italian F4 champion Kean Nakamura-Berta. The Prema Racing driver set a best time of 1:56.745. Once again, Munoz impressed, just 0.066s adrift, and in turn 0.071s clear of the Van Amersfoort Racing car driven by Andrea Dupé.

Setting the best time of the day was Emanuele Olivieri, who went quickest in the final afternoon session with a 1:56.706. He led team-mate Rashid Al Dhaheri by 0.065s, securing a one-two finish for R-ace GP, while Alexander Abkhazava (MP Motorsport) completed the top three.

The next outing will be the third and final pre-season test at Spielberg over the Easter weekend (4–5 April), where all 30 drivers will once again take to the track in the new Tatuus T-326 single-seater. The Austrian circuit will also host the opening round of the eight-event calendar.
