Shootout finalist Nathan Yu steps up to GB4 with Oldfield Motorsport

GB4 race winners Oldfield Motorsport will hand a slicks and wings racing debut to 2023 Shootout finalist Nathan Yu across the next three GB4 Championship events.

The 18-year-old Canadian driver from Richmond Hill, Ontario, will make his first GB4 race appearances with the squad at Donington Park on 25/26 May, and will also compete at Snetterton on 13/14 July, and at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on 27/28 July.

Nathan made his car racing debut in Formula Vee Canada at the age of 15, before competing in selected Formula Ford events in the UK in 2022 and 2023.

As one of the leading teenage contenders in last year’s National Formula Ford Championship, Yu was invited to take part in the GB4 Shootout at Snetterton, where he showed significant progress throughout the day, and improved his lap times by over 11 seconds.

Having completed his studies across the Atlantic, Yu is now gearing up for his maiden GB4 appearances this summer, with the Oldfield Motorsport team that claimed victory during its maiden GB4 event at Silverstone in 2022. He will test the team’s Spanish F4 championship-winning car across the next few weeks, as he prepares for racing action.

Nathan Yu said: “I’m incredibly excited to be driving in the GB4 Championship this year with Oldfield Motorsport. As a team with previous success in both GB4 and Formula Ford, I believe there will be a smooth transition and I hope to achieve the goals I set out for myself this year.”

Team Principal James Oldfield said: “We’re delighted to welcome Nathan to the team and the GB4 Championship. Ever since the Shootout in November at Snetterton, Nathan had a keen eye on ourselves and the GB4 Championship as an option for 2024. He recently completed his freshman year's university studies and exams, so no doubt he’s more excited than anyone of us – but we are all seriously looking forward to getting Nathan back out on track and in our GB4 car, as we focus on his preparation for his GB4 race debut.”
