Coronel will make the trip to Kent this weekend with momentum on his side following a dream home event at Zandvoort last time out. The Dutchman charged to two wins on home tarmac, taking his tally to a stunning 11 victories from 15 races so far in his rookie car-racing campaign.
Three additional second place results mean the Red Bull Junior Team driver is currently on a run of 14 consecutive podium finishes. That level of consistency has built him a formidable championship lead and is putting him on course for a potentially record-breaking season.
Coronel was denied a perfect hat-trick in his home event by his R Racing team-mate Alfie Slater. The winner of the season-opening race at Donington Park made a long-awaited return to the top step of the podium, with a top three treble in the Netherlands taking his tally to six for the year.
R Racing have only been defeated in two races so far this year, and their standout season means they have become the first team in Junior history to pick up 20 or more overall podium finishes in six consecutive race seasons.
Max Cuthbert and Scott Kin Lindblom have each contributed four podiums to the team’s tally. Cuthbert narrowly missed out on a maiden win at Zandvoort as he picked up a season’s best second place finish, while Red Bull-backed Lindblom finished second back at Oulton Park.
Leading the challenge to break the R Racing dominance has been Fred Green (Elite Motorsport). The Ginetta Junior Scholarship winner has regularly been Coronel’s closest challenger this season, securing wins at Oulton Park and Snetterton to keep himself right in title contention.
Elite’s talented six-car entry includes Colin Cronin, a multiple race-winner in 2024 who is chasing his first silverware of the season. Ethan Carney earned a breakthrough podium finish at Silverstone, while Revie Lake is one to watch following his best run of performances of the season so far.
A number of drivers will head into the weekend full of confidence after celebrating best-ever results at Zandvoort. Jarrett Clark enjoyed his maiden top six finish, while his R Racing team-mate Felipe Reijs broke into the top ten for the first time at his home event.
On his first weekend since switching teams to Elite Motorsport, Joshua Henry secured a best result of 15th overall in consecutive races. Tim Gray Motorsport team-mates Katrina EE and Matthew Chiwara reached new heights with 12th and 14th place finishes respectively.
Torrin Byrne (Pace Performance) highlighted his raw speed again with the second fastest time in qualifying at Zandvoort, adding to pole position at Silverstone and a podium at Donington Park. George Proudford-Nalder (MDD Racing) meanwhile, was a podium-finisher at Oulton Park.
Pace Performance team-mates Ethan Lennon and Harry Bartle have regularly been in the thick of the hotly-contested top ten battles this season, alongside the likes of Raul Zunzarren (MKH Racing), Emmilio Del Grosso (Elite Motorsport) and recent addition Max Murray (ProjectR).
The hugely talented grid for this weekend is completed by Henry Cameron (Fox Motorsport), Joshua Watts (Tim Gray Motorsport), Noah Young (Performance One), Andrew Robinson (E3 Sport) and championship debutant Lewis Goff (ProjectR).
