Oliver Goethe continued his astonishing form in the third round of the Euroformula Open championship season last weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard.

Oliver arrived at Le Castellet with a comfortable lead in the championship and the young Dane went to work straight away. He was fastest in both practice sessions and missed out on pole only by a tiny margin, securing himself a front-row start for the opening race of the weekend.

One thing the 17-year-old has been working really hard on since Pau was his starts, and his efforts paid off. He snatched the lead in turn 1 and he never looked back, claiming his first dominant win of the weekend.

The reverse grid placed him all the way down to P6 for Race 2 on Sunday morning which would put any driver to the test, but the ROFGO Junior was relishing the challenge. He made a superb getaway, gained two positions on the opening lap and following a spectacular move on VAR drivers Øgaard and Marinangeli he found himself behind his main title rival Christian Mansell, with a 3-second gap to close down in thirteen laps while having to fend off the attack from behind. The young Dane started to chip away Mansell’s advantage setting the fastest lap of the race.  With only three laps left to go, Oliver got within striking range of the Australian, delivering a stupendous drag race to the finish line however he had to settle for second.

Due to the reverse grid regulations, Ollie started the final race of the weekend from P5 and with a great launch off the grid, he dived straight into the top 3 battle. He caught Øgaard in P2 in Turn 1 on the second lap and following a sensational battle with Ugran down the pit straight he grabbed the lead from the Romanian on the following lap. Oliver then steered his ROFGO liveried car to victory, bagging all extra points available by setting the fastest lap and gaining the most positions in the race, extending his lead by 35 points with six more rounds to go.

The next round of the Euroformula Open Championship will take place on June 18-19 at one of the best circuits in the world, Spa-Francorchamps.
