Proton Huber Competition's unique motorsport pyramid helps Former karting champ Robert de Haan test drive a Porsche 963

Thanks to Proton Huber Competition's unique motorsport pyramid, Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland champion Robert de Haan had the opportunity to drive a Porsche 963 from the FIA WEC at the rookie test (9 November).

After Robert de Haan was crowned champion in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland with Proton Huber Competition last season, the Dutchman has now taken the next step in his career: at the FIA WEC rookie test, the 19-year-old tested a Porsche 963 from partner team Proton Competition. De Haan completed a total of 33 laps in the 680 hp LMDh prototype on the desert circuit in Sakhir. Last year, his compatriot Larry ten Voorde was given a similar opportunity with the Bavarian team after winning the German Porsche Carrera Cup title.

‘This was a unique opportunity for me. My career goal is to become a works driver in the Hypercar category. So when I got the call about the test, it was a special feeling,’ said de Haan at the end of the day. "The test went very well for me: I quickly got a feel for the car. I got into the rhythm quickly and my speed was really good as a result. I am very happy with my performance and hope that I will continue to develop my career in the coming season. I learned a lot over the weekend, especially as I accompanied Proton Competition in the WEC paddock. I enjoyed every second of it."

The test is the perfect example of the unique motorsport pyramid that Proton Huber Competition offers together with its partner team Proton Competition. Starting with the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse, through the popular Porsche one-make series such as the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, to the successful GT3 programme, Proton Huber Competition covers a wide range of areas of activity.

Proton Competition is also active in GT3 racing and offers a springboard into prototype racing. Among other events, the team competes in the Asian Le Mans Series and the European Le Mans Series with LMP2 prototypes. The programme is rounded off by the use of the Porsche 963 in the global top class LMDh. The team has competed with this vehicle in the FIA WEC and the American IMSA championship in recent years.

Team owner Christian Ried is particularly proud of this: "Proton Competition has unique opportunities to give talents like Robert de Haan a chance. No other team in global motorsport offers career advancement opportunities that range from the Porsche one-make cups to the highest class of endurance racing. We were very pleased with how quickly Robert got to grips with the Porsche 963 and the progress he made throughout the day. After his successes this season, he more than earned his place in the FIA WEC rookie test."
