The second round of the Tuto Super One Series took place at Whilton Mill at the weekend, with another record entry and again a C Final in Senior Max which Joe Turney continues to dominate.Saturday’s weather was wet or greasy all day, but on Sunday the drivers soon got onto slicks and stayed there.

MSA British Cadet Kart Championship

Maxwell Dodds took pole 0.03s ahead of William MacIntyre, but Freddie Slater came through from 4th to win both heats. In Final 1 on a drying track Arvid Lindblad overtook poleman Slater and led for half the race before Slater retook the lead and went on to win ahead of MacIntyre. MacIntyre won Final 2 after a race-long battle with Slater where they progressively distanced their rivals. MacIntyre decisively took the lead two laps from the end after spending some time in control early on.

MSA X30 Junior National Championship

Dragan Pinsent qualified fastest, 0.33s ahead of Clayton Ravenscroft, and went on to win two heats, with Lewis GIlbert taking the other. Poleman Pinsent led all the way in a drying Final 1 with less pressure after 2nd-placed Caden McQueen then Reggie Duhy retired leaving Ravenscroft 2nd. Pinsent crossed the line first in Final 2 after a battle with Ravenscroft but was penalised by a lap for driving in a manner incompatible with general safety, so the win went to Ravenscroft.

MSA X30 Senior National Championship

Elliot Harvey took pole ahead of the 31 drivers, 0.12s faster than Thomas Turner. Harvey won both heats, with Joe Turney 2nd in the intermediate ahead of Turner. Oliver Hodgson started down in 7th after a penalty in one heat and 2nd in the other. Hodgson took the chequered flag in Final 1 after overtaking Turney at half-distance, but was penalised for an incorrectly-positioned front fairing which gave the win to Morgan Porter. In Final 2 Hodgson came back through to win, followed closely by Turney who had led several laps, as did Porter early on.

ABkC Honda Cadet National Championship

Daniel Guinchard qualified on pole almost three tenths ahead of Leon Henderson, but Sebastian Bloch took pole for the Finals with two heat wins to Guinchard’s one. In Final 1 Bloch lost the lead to Henderson initially, regained the lead of the pack for a few laps then again succumbed to Henderson, but although Henderson took the chequered flag he was disqualified for being underweight so the win went to Bloch. Alfie Rigby was 2nd while the other member of the lead pack, Kean Berta, lost places with a spoiler penalty. Guinchard won Final 2 from Theo Micouris after a battle that also included Rigby, with Sonny Smith charging through the pack to take 2nd before dropping back in the last-lap scuffles. Bloch took 3rd in the end, a second behind Micouris.

ABkC Minimax National Championship

Myles Barthorpe qualified fastest a couple of tenths faster than Marcus Littlewood and the two shared the heat wins, with Littlewood taking pole for the Finals by merit of his 2nd in his other heat. Brodie Trayhorn jumped into the lead from 3rd on the grid in Final 1 but dropped out on the next lap, giving the lead to Littlewood for the rest of the race. Max Edmundson was 2nd until deposed by Ellis Puleio but Edmundson found his way back and was gaining on Littlewood by the end, finishing just over a tenth behind. Puleio didn’t finish, and Barthorpe crossed the line 3rd. Barthorpe took the lead at the start in Final 2 and gradually pulled away from Littlewood throughout the 12 laps, with Trayhorn gaining 11 places to finish 3rd.

ABkC Junior Max National Championship

Kai Hunter was the poleman after Qualifying ahead of James Lowther and held on to it with a win and a 2nd after the heats. Hunter led throughout the race in Final 1, distancing Matthew Collings slightly, while Finlay Bunce made his way through to 3rd. Hunter lost the lead to Bunce at the start of Final 2 but continued to fight early on, along with Cameron Thomson. However, Lowther, who had lost out in Final 1, was coming through and hit the front in the middle of the race with Guy Cunnington following him through. Hunter regained 2nd and Cunnington finished 3rd.

ABkC Senior Max National Championship

Man of the moment Joe Turney took pole by 0.45s from Bradley Barrett in Qualifying, and went on two win his two heats, as did Barrett. The other heat win went to Sam White for 3rd in the intermediate classification while Myles Apps took two 2nds. Turney led from lights to flag in the first Senior Max final, gradually pulling away from Apps, followed by Michael Cheek. Turney did it again in Final 2 but with more of a battle for 2nd which ended with Rhys Hunter taking the position and Apps receiving a spoiler penalty, which promoted Kearn Tsang to the podium.

ABkC Rotax 177 National Championship

James Beacroft took pole 0.07s ahead of Alex Rowley and went on to win both heats, giving him pole for the Finals ahead of Oliver Smith and Daniel Martin with Louis Large 4th. Martin led Final 1 initially from 3rd on the grid but in mid-race he was taken by Large, then dropped back in an incident that brought out the battenberg flags to neutralise the race. Joe Pfiffner was 2nd briefly but Beacroft had made his way back through the field after dropping back at the start and finished as the runner-up. In Final 2 Large held the lead briefly but Beacroft overtook after a lap and headed the field for most of the race before dropping back when Large retook the lead a couple of laps from the end. Martin had been 3rd so was promoted a place, with Chris Wright coming in 3rd.

Mini X Guest Race

Joshua Rowledge narrowly took pole from Joshua McLean, with the heat wins going to Rowledge and Rashan Chigorimbo. Rowledge took the lead at the start of Final 1 and held it for 10 laps before a challenge from poleman Chigorimbo, but Rowledge regained the lead and went on to win while Chigorimbo received a spoiler penalty. McLean had been lurking in ambush in 3rd with Ivan Lomliev a few seconds back. Final 2 saw no fewer than six lead changes in the battle between Rowledge, McLean and Chigorimbo but Rowledge again prevailed. Chigorimbo didn’t finish, so the podium was again Rowledge, McLean and Lomliev.
