At the highest international level of karting, James Wharton has just competed in the biggest event of the season's calendar: the OK World Championship. Arriving at the Portuguese circuit in Portimao with great ambitions, the Australian rookie confirmed his place among the top 20 drivers in the world. After a difficult Qualifying session due to the constantly changing weather conditions, James Wharton was forced to start in 29th position, before moving up to 17th under the chequered flag.

Just as the colours of the sky kept changing during the weekend in the south of Portugal, the Birel ART Racing team went through all kinds of emotions during the highly anticipated World Championship in the OK and OK-Junior categories. Whether with the Brazilian Matheus Morgatto in OK or the Pole Tymoteusz Kucharczyk in OK-Junior, the podium was a strong possibility considering the performances displayed during the Qualifying phases. The Finals, which were held in difficult rainy conditions, were, unfortunately, a real disappointment for every member of the Italian team. See you in 2021...

The omnipresent rain on Sunday 8th November on the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve played a major role in the final outcome. Freddie Slater, winner in the last metres in the Junior category, and Callum Bradshaw, incredibly dominating in the OK Final, deserve the warmest congratulations.

On Saturday, 7th November, the second day of the 2020 FIA Karting World Championship - OK & Junior gave rise to intense confrontations at all levels on the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve. Under the Portuguese sun, the twenty Qualifying Heats on the schedule proved to be full of adventures. Champions of the Future celebrated the conclusion of its inaugural season last weekend at Portimao with more than 160 drivers competing on the Kartodromo Internacional do Algarve. While Marcus Amand stormed from the midfield to win the OK final, Nikita Bedrin claimed the first Champions of the Future title! Meanwhile, in the Junior class, Ugo Ugochukwu’s dominant win did not prevent Arvid Lindblad from securing the crown at the end of an exciting racing weekend under Portugal’s blue sky!

Racing in OK in 2020, Lorenzo Patrese has shown real progress in his fourth year in karting. The driver from Padua, who celebrated his 15th birthday in August, now wishes to continue his career in single-seater racing next season.

The Champions of the Future series held at Portimao was the perfect time to hold a final rehearsal in optimal conditions before the FIA Karting World Championship in the OK and OK-Junior categories. This was on the minds of all the drivers, who gathered a lot of information in preparation for the biggest event of the season. In terms of results, Polish driver Timoteusz Kucharczyk proved to be the top representative of the official Birel ART Racing team.

International karting will be on track in Portimao for the 2^nd and final race of the Champions of the Future series, on the next weekend (from Thursday 29^th October to Sunday 1^st November). It will be a very important race as it will be a test for all the teams and drivers in view of the FIA ​​World Championship for the OK and OK-Junior categories, which will be held on the same track the following week.

Very involved in his role as President of the FIA International Karting Commission, Felipe Massa was determined to meet the different players in the 2020 FIA Karting Competitions, first during the European Championship - OK & Junior in July, then in Italy at the World Championship - KZ. Despite the tight schedule between August and November, the Brazilian was pleased with the success of the current racing season.
