An unlucky weekend for Kosmic in the European Championship
The Kosmic Kart Racing Department did not manage to fully realise its potential in the first round of the OK and OKJ FIA Karting European Championship, in which it confirmed the competitiveness of the Kosmic-Vortex package.
In the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship, the Kosmic Kart Racing Department once again proved to be extremely competitive, but the Spanish event proved to be more complicated than expected for their drivers, too many times victims of race episodes that deprived them of results they could otherwise have achieved. The speed their drivers were, in fact, able to go in their Kosmic Mercury R powered by Vortex on the Circuito Internacional de Zuera was as good as that of the top drivers, which leaves them with a bit of a bitter taste in their mouths, but it also makes us optimistic for the next races.
In fact, Luigi Coluccio's weekend started on the right foot, achieving the second-best time in his qualifying group in the OK class. Despite the excellent start, Coluccio also had to deal with a withdrawal in the Heats that put him way down in the rankings and, consequently, in the starting grid for the final. Here, the Italian still showed his skills in exploiting their equipment and recovered 13 positions managing to enter the points area.
Even in OKJ their drivers immediately achieved convincing times, but there were also many circumstances that prevented them from total success. Ean Eyckmans immediately entered the race in the qualifiers with the 4thbest time in his group, before achieving 4 top ten placings in the Heats in a row, but also, unfortunately, a 17thplace. Alexander Gubenko raced a fast lap and made his way into the line-up to bring himself in the top ten 4 times before falling, like Eyckmans, to 17thposition in the last heat. Three withdrawals, however, prevented Axel Malja, who was sixth in his qualifying group with the potential to easily get into the top ten in all the Heats, from reaching the final.
Here the bad luck continued for their drivers: unfortunately, Gubenko's race ended immediately due to an accident he was involved in on the first lap, while Eyckmans received a post-race penalty for the front nose in an incorrect position.
The next event on the track for the Kosmic Kart Racing Department is scheduled to take place in three weeks’ time, returning to the International Circuit of Naples, in Sarno (Italy), to take part in the second stage of the FIA Karting European Championship OK and Junior.
