This year, the drivers travelled to the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben for the final of the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM). After 2018, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) returns to Oschersleben and will host the final races on the track in the Magdeburg Börde. Due to the Corona pandemic, the 2020 season is particularly short. Less than two months after the start of the season at the end of August in Kerpen, the drivers will now head to Oschersleben for the final. In the meantime, the world’s first electric kart championship completed two race weekends in Wackersdorf.

The worldwide Corona pandemic also caused a late start into the season of the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM). Next weekend, things will get going though: On the traditional Erftlandring in Kerpen, the unique electric kart racing series is going to start into its third season. A newly developed high performance racing E-kart, longer racing distances and an attractive field of participants promise lots of excitement.

The newly developed “Project E20” electric kart from BRP-Rotax is probably the most important “asset” in this year’s DEKM season. “More power, a longer battery life and a reduced weight boost the performance of the German Electric Kart Championship to a whole new level,” says Oliver Schielein, Managing Director of IKmedia, the promoter of the series. During the first test drives, the new e-kart received an extremely enthusiastic reception from drivers. “We now want to ensure that we do not endanger the success of our most important asset by starting off with the handbrake engaged,” says Schielein.

Mr Schielein, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) recently published its new race calendar for 2020. Did you find it challenging to organise?

In 2020, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) is already starting into its third season and offering numerous highlights again. All five racing events are going to take place in Germany this time. The DEKM is going to start in Wackersdorf twice. Due to a new E-kart by technical partner BRP-Rotax, the participants can look forward to more power and longer race durations.

KÜS Team75 Bernhard will be fielding two brand-new Porsche 911 GT3 Rs in the 2019 ADAC GT Masters and also intensifying their youth policy. They will be extending the scope of their activities to karting this year with the entry of the new Junior Team75 in the ADAC Kart Masters.
