Bedrin blasts to fourth victory as jubilant Jackes secures race three honours at Hungaroring

Championship leader Nikita Bedrin stormed to his fourth victory of the season in race two at the Hungaroring this morning, while Flynn Jackes triumphed in the event finale this evening.

Bedrin fought back at the start of this morning's contest after being passed by Hitech's Deagen Fairclough at the start. He finished ahead of Rodin's local man Martin Molnar, who delighted the home crowd with his fourth podium of the season, while Xcel's Lucas Fluxa completed the podium.

Then in race three, Elite Motorsport's Jackes claimed his maiden series victory, controlling the race despite multiple safety car periods. He finished ahead of Fluxa, who secured his second podium of the day and Fluxa's teammate Rowan Campbell-Pilling, who took a first GB3 podium.

Race two
Fairclough was the quicker starter from the front row, and like in yesterday's opener, opted for the inside line at turn one. As Bedrin locked his brakes, Fairclough made the move stick, only for the championship leader to storm back around the outside at turn two. A first lap collision at turn one necessitated a safety car, with Fairclough also retiring as the boards were shown at the end of the lap.

At the restart, Bedrin pulled away from a squabble for the podium spots, with Rodin pair Molnar and Maxim Rehm going wheel to wheel. Rehm moved past Budapest resident Molnar, but it wasn't to last long, as Molnar was soon back into second, with Rehm retiring shortly afterwards.

That promoted Xcel's Fluxa to the podium for the second time this year, as he solidified his fourth place in the current standings, finishing ahead of Rodin's Abbi Pulling, Elite's Kyuho Lee and Hillspeed's Dante Vinci.

Race three
At the 52nd time of asking, Elite Motorsport's Flynn Jackes finally became a GB3 race winner. He did it in fine style, making a good start to the race and making excellent restarts after three separate safety car periods.

The Australian-Filipino had built a lead of over three seconds mid-race, only to lose it when teammate Kyuho Lee crashed at turn 11. Despite that, he kept cool despite the pressure, and headed home Fluxa by 1.6 seconds. The Spaniard had made another excellent start to rise to third from seventh on the grid at the start and moved up to second after the first restart.

Rowan Campbell-Pilling was awarded his first GB3 podium finish with third place. Rehm had finished third on the road, but was handed a one-place penalty post-race. Rehm was therefore classified fourth, ahead of Bedrin, who climbed to fifth from 12th on the grid, with Hitech debutant Jacob Micallef completing the top-six.

With his immediate title rivals hitting misfortune this weekend, Bedrin now holds a commanding 68-point lead at the top of the standings, heading to the Red Bull Ring next weekend.

Championship leader Bedrin said: "It's a shame what happened to the others, but it's racing. I focused on my job of course, and this weekend I think I've maximised on all the points I could. So I can be really happy with that. The team is doing an amazing job, so a big thanks to VRD Racing and everyone who's been supporting me. For sure, this is the best season I've had in a long time, and it feels great."

Race three winner Jackes: "I'm so happy. I remember the heartbreak from Silverstone, and the misfortunes from Spa. It's nice to be here, we started the weekend on the back foot, just struggling honestly, but in the end we found a way. When I came back to the series last year, I was just hoping to keep the dream alive. I went into last year weighing 12 kilos more than I do now, and that was caused by an injury at the end of 2024. As I've healed, I've got better and lost a lot of weight. With that comes pace, it's always been there, but now I can show it."
