British-Finnish racer Flame Airikkala will make her GB4 debut at Snetterton this weekend (12-13 July), completing a capacity three-car line-up at Pace Performance. The 18-year-old is the granddaughter of rallying legend Pentti Airikkala, and already has racing experience to count on across the past couple of seasons.
Flame’s racing debut came in the 2023 Fiesta Junior Championship, with her best result being a second place. Last year, she completed several GB4 test days in the previous generation chassis and competed in her first single-seater race, Formula Nordic in Sweden. Since then, she’s gained further single-seater experience with tests in Japanese F4 machinery.
The start of the 2025 season saw Flame participate in a Tarmac Stage Rally at Snetterton, and then a Radical Cup UK race weekend at the start of June, claiming a sixth-place finish in a competitive field.
Flame now turns her attentions back to GB4, ahead of her series race debut this weekend and only her second formula car race. She will join championship regulars Stefan Bostandjiev and Josh McLean at the team.
Flame Airikkala said: “I’m really looking forward to my first ever race weekend in a GB4 car. Not having driven this car before, I’m a realist and know it’s a steep learning curve jumping in halfway through the season and totally understand I’ll be playing catch up against much more experienced drivers”.
Pace Performance Team Principal Sean Byrne said: "We are pleased to have Flame joining the team, and we look forward to working with her to develop across the race weekend and the rest of the season. The rest of the grid has obviously had a head start so far, but we reckon Flame can look to get in the mix this weekend and then establish herself further as the year goes on."
