Wheldon makes FIA FREC step with PREMA for 2026

PREMA Racing announces that Sebastian Wheldon will compete with the team in the 2026 FIA Formula Regional European Championship, making the step from Formula 4 into the revamped championship.

Son of legendary Indy 500 and INDYCAR Champion Dan Wheldon, the 17-year-old American made his European debut in 2025 and quickly impressed, becoming a leading contender in the Italian F4 and E4 championships.

Wheldon began his career in 2023, winning the Skip Barber Formula Race Series. He then took multiple USF Juniors wins en route to third place in the series. Last year, he joined PREMA for the Formula Trophy UAE series, quickly cruising to victory. A positive experience in the 2025 F4 Middle East Championship then led to a total of seven wins, three pole positions, and nine podiums in the main season.

Wheldon has recently wrapped up the 2026 Formula Regional Middle East Trophy where he achieved multiple podium finishes.

“It feels great to be back with PREMA and to move up to FIA FREC this year.  We had a really good first season, winning races in Formula 4, and I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish in 2026! I feel adjusted to the European environment and feel at home within the team. I want to thank TWG Motorsports for continuing to support me.  Excited for what’s ahead!”
