Reno Francot rounded off the opening Red Bull Ring round of the FIA Formula Regional European Championship by taking victory in a dramatic Race 3, which saw the safety car deployed four times. The Dutch driver for CL Motorsport, who had already secured a podium in Saturday’s second race, also moved to the top of the Drivers’ standings, capitalising on the retirement of the polesitter and Race 1 winner Kean Nakamura-Berta (Prema Racing). Gabriel Gomez finished seventh for Rodin Motorsport, securing victory in the Rookie class.

Kean Nakamura-Berta claimed victory in the opening race of the FIA Formula Regional European Championship season at the Red Bull Ring. The Prema Racing driver converted Friday’s pole position into a commanding win. Finishing second was Rashid Al Dhaheri (R-ace GP), while MP Motorsport’s Sebastian Wheldon took third place. Marcus Saeter (G4 Racing) topped the Rookie class.

Kean Nakamura-Berta has become the first-ever pole-sitter in the history of the FIA Formula Regional European Championship. The Prema Racing driver was the overall fastest across the two groups that took to the track at the Red Bull Ring in the opening qualifying session of the season, when he clocked 1:25.765. Alongside him on the front row for the first of the weekend’s three races will be Rashid Al Dhaheri (R-ace GP), who set the pace in the second group with a 1:25.951.
