Gunskirchen, Austria – The first edition of the Swedish Rotax E10 Mini Series featured at the Gelleråsen Arena during the legendary Kanonloppet (Canon Race) over the weekend of August 13-15, 2026, marking the historic launch of the highly anticipated E-Kart category. This is the beginning of the new electric racing era taking off in Sweden with the Rotax E-powertrain designed for competitors aged 10 to 13 years. The Rotax E20 Junior and E20 Senior classes had previously appeared on the national race calendar for the Swedish E-kart Championship prior to this as well.
The unique motorsport event at Karlskoga is a true festival of racing, comprising the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and Sprint Challenge Scandinavia, V8s and Legends race cars, Pro Superbikes, stalls, live entertainment and more for the thousands of fans there. This was the first stage of the double-round E10 Mini Series in Sweden, which ultimately rewards the champion with their entry ticket to compete at the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals.
The highlight event of the Rotax racing season returns to one of Europe’s top circuits on the Algarve coast in Portugal this November 7-14. Each qualified driver from every E10 series worldwide will be racing for the inaugural E10 Mini E-Kart title.
The Rotax E10 introduces a fully electric kart racing series designed for young competitors entering the sport, delivering the renowned parity synonymous with the Austrian engine brand. Focus on track time, developing driving skills and racecraft is the priority of this class, with an E-Powertrain that can be fitted to a standard 950 chassis, with maintenance-free batteries and motor. The option to rent or buy the complete powerpack and accessory kit makes it easy to get started.
Following official practice and qualifying on Thursday, alternating with the RMC & Nordic Championship for Rotax Senior MAX, four 10-lap Finals were then scheduled on Friday and Saturday. Competitors travelled from Finland, Norway and Sweden for the initial round of the E-Kart series. Pole position was secured by Aston Fornborn (KAK Motorsport-Parolin), who proceeded to take both race wins the next day. Another Swede, Karl Larsson (Gold Kart-Uddevalla Kartingklubb) took a convincing victory in the third race before setting the best lap in the afternoon Final Sunday to finish P3. Norwegian Aksel Remmen Hatle (Kali Kart-NMK Molde) won the last race to seal the opening round by a narrow margin to fellow countryman Leon Planas (Tony Kart-Kna Varna). Meanwhile, Larsson’s consistent results see him leading the Swedish E10 Mini championship by just four points going into the second round at Gelleråsen next month. Fornborn and Remmen Hatle are tied for P2.
The competition was very close as the drivers became familiar with the electric kart, adapting to the long 1.257 kilometre circuit and learning where to use the cool Boost function for maximum advantage. Race strategy and positioning remained key, which produced some great racing, and the newcomers improved with every session. It is expected that round 2 will be another thriller to look forward to, where points from both events will combine to determine the overall winner.
This initiative proved to be an enjoyable experience for those participating and watching on, proudly supported by Rotax Distributor for Sweden ‘Radne’, the national federation Svenske Bilsport, Gel-leråsen Arena, Porsche Motorsport, Prins Carl Philips Racing Pokal and BRP-Rotax. For future generations of karting and motorsport, this is a significant step in developing new talent and champions. The second edition of the Rotax E10 Mini Series will take place at the closing round of the RMC Sweden on September 26-27.
