Tony Kart: pole position and podium at the KZ-KZ2 European Champ in Sarno

In the second and final round of the FIA Karting European Championship for the shifter categories, held in Italy, the Tony Kart Racing Team sets the fastest time in qualifying and claims second place in the KZ2 category.

The 2026 edition of the FIA Karting European Championship, reserved for the KZ and KZ2 classes, ends on a high note for the Tony Kart Racing Team. At the Naples International Circuit (Italy), the Tony Kart Racer 401 T secures the pole position in KZ2 and finishes the final on the second step of the podium.

In KZ2, Maximilian Schleimer and Genis Civico Espona establish themselves as the class leaders right from the qualifying: the German driver conquers the pole position with the best time of 56.307 seconds in Group 1, while the Spanish driver finishes behind him, setting the fastest time in Group 2 with 56.342 seconds. Schleimer gains two wins and two top-three finishes in the next qualifying heats, as well as a further victory in Super Heat B. Civico Espona, meanwhile, wins one eliminatory heat, records four top-three finishes and sets two fastest laps, alongside a fourth-place finish in Super Heat A.

With these results, their two drivers secure the first and second rows respectively on the starting grid of the final. Both jump well at the starting grid and are immediately caught up in the battle for the lead: initially, it is Schleimer who challenges the race leader; later, it is Civico Espona who fights for victory, finishing in second place. Schleimer battles right to the end for a podium finish, finishing in the top five and securing the third place in the championship with 135 points.

In his second outing of the season with the Racing Team, Nicola Rossini shows off a solid pace throughout the weekend, managing to qualify for Sunday afternoon’s final.

In the KZ class, once again, Lorenzo Camplese, Tom Leuillet and Matteo Viganò make up their line-up, continuing the work carried out with their staff during the first round at Genk. Leuillet is their best performer over the weekend and gains a top-10 finish in the final, a result also achieved by his teammate Camplese.

There will be no break for the Tony Kart Racing Team, which will head to Cremona Karting in Italy to attend the third and final round of the WSK Euro Series (8th–11th July).
