New leaders in WSK Super Master Series

The WSK Super Master Series ran its second round with all four categories on track at the South Garda Karting of Lonato and got to its heart with an exceptional participation and a record number of 362 drivers from 47 different countries. The competitiveness of the Series promoted by WSK Promotion was confirmed by the changes on top of the classifications. KZ2 was at its season’s opener as Giuseppe Palomba (BirelArt-TM Racing-Vega/BirelArt Racing) had the upper hand on all his strong rivals and dominated a very exciting final at the end of a weekend where a lot of drivers came to the fore. In OK the Brit Joe Turney (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone/Tony Kart Racing Team) got the lead of the classification by winning the Final in Lonato and now proceeds teammate Pedro Hiltbrand in the standings. The new leader of OK-Junior is the Brit Arvid Lindblad (KR-Iame-Vega/KR Motorsport), who won the final that confirmed him among the main protagonists of the category. The young Russian Gerasim Skulanov (IPK-TM Racing-Vega/Formula K) confirmed his lead in Mini instead taking the second win in a row after the one scored in Adria.

Palomba the new name of KZ2.

Category KZ2 joined in for the second round of the WSK Super Master Series with 75 of the strongest international drivers got on track. The Italian Giuseppe Palomba (BirelArt-TM Racing-Vega/BirelArt Racing) emerged from this round on top of the classification but is not a new name as he already came to the fore in WSK Open Cup at the end of 2019. A lot of other drivers have been shining in this race though; among these, Giacomo Pollini, ran a great qualifying but went off in Prefinal due to a contact with a lapped driver, as happened to Riccardo Longhi (BirelArt-TM Racing/BirelArt Racing), Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart-Vortex/Tony Kart Racing Team) and several others that had to retire from one heat and accused some delay in the final stages. Fabian Federer (Maranello-TM Racing/SRP Racing Team) and Palomba’s teammate Alex Irlando joined Palomba on the podium and have been very competitive in all the racing stages in Lonato.

WSK Super Master Series, KZ2 classification: 1. Palomba (ITA) points 107; 2. Irlando (ITA) 80; 3. Federer (ITA) 79; 4. Iglesias (FRA) 53; 5. Buran (ITA) 33; 6. Lundberg (SWE) 31; 7. Nomblot (FRA) 23; 8. Leuillet (FRA) and Dalè (ITA) 21; 10. Gustafsson (SWE) 19.

Turney bouncing back to the lead in OK.

Category OK had 85 drivers at the start and the Brit Joe Turney (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone/Tony Kart Racing Team) bounced back from the opener in Adria when he ended sixth as his teammate from Spain Pedro Hiltbrand had taken the win. Thanks to this win in Lonato that came at the end of a great comeback race, Turney secured the classification lead getting past Hiltbrand, as the latter had a crescendo of results in Lonato but had to settle for P2. Things went better for the young Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR-Iame/KR Motorsport), who was on top after heats and third at the end of a solid final. He now stands third in the classification too. Among the quickest in Lonato were also the Brit Taylor Barnard (KR-Iame/Rosberg Racing Academy), the Russian Kirill Smal (Energy-TM Racing/Energy Corse) and Luigi Coluccio (Kosmic-Vortex/Kosmic Racing). Enzo Trulli (KR-Iame/KR Motorsport) was also among the quickest in qualifying but ended 11th as he lost some ground in Prefinal.

WSK Super Master Series, OK classification: 1. Turney (GBR) points 137; 2. Hiltbrand (ESP) 120; 3. Antonelli (ITA) 92; 4. Vant Hoff (NLD) 88; 5. Barnard (GBR) 83; 6. Smal (RUS) 63; 7. Trulli (ITA) and Coluccio (ITA) 42; 9. Ten Brinke (NLD) 38; 10. Wharton (AUS) 37.

Lindblad takes the lead of OK-Junior.

OK-Junior had 94 drivers at the start and the Brit Arvid Lindblad (KR-Iame-Vega/KR Motorsport) got the lead of the classification taking the full haul in Lonato winning Prefinal and Final. He now stands at 149 points as he took over the lead from teammate Alfio Andrea Spina, who won the race in Adria. Spina had a tougher weekend this time around as he managed to recover some ground in the final, but then was handed a penalty and lost several positions with it. The Italian now is second in the classification, 34 points shy of the lead. The other KR Motorsport driver, Brando Badoer, made a big leap forward in the classification as he ended second in Lonato. He climbed the classification up to P4, while his teammate at KR Motorsport Igor Cepil was third in the race and sixth in the standings. The two Poles Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (RK-TM Racing/Birel Art Racing) and Karol Pasiewicz (Tony Kart-Vortex/Tony Kart Racing Team) ran a strong race ending in the top five, respectively in fourth and fifth place.

WSK Super Master Series, OKJ classification: 1. Lindblad (GBR) points 149; 2. Spina (ITA) 115; 3. Pasiewicz (POL) 95; 4. Badoer (ITA) 86; 5. Kucharczyk (POL) 83; 6. Cepil (CZE) 79; 7. Ho (SGP) 50; 8. Ugochukwu (USA) 44; 9. Severiukhin (RUS) 32; 10. Stenshorne (NOR) 23.

The Russian Skulanov on top of Mini again.

In Mini, category that featured 108 drivers at the start, the Russian Gerasim Skulanov (IPK-TM Racing-Vega/Formula K) dominated the round of Lonato after winning in Adria. The victory in prefinal and final made Skulanov reach 188 points, leaving his fellow-countrymen Dmitry Matveev Energy-TM Racing/Energy Corse) and Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin-TM Racing/Parolin Racing Team) respectively at  105 and 101 points. Matveev came to the fore in the final where he claimed P3, while Khavalkin had a good prefinal that earned him 30 points. United Arab Emirates’ Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin-TM Racing/Parolin Racing) secured a good second place in Lonato and reached the fourth place of the classification at 88 points.

WSK Super Master Series, MINI classification: 1. Skulanov (RUS) points 188; 2. Matveev (RUS) 105; 3.  Khavalkin (RUS) 101; 4. Al Dhaheri (ARE) 88; 5. Helias (FRA) 63; 6. Nakamura (JPN) 44; 7. Fotveev (RUS) 39; 8. Kastelic (SVN) 38; 9. Cui (CHN) 37; 10. Przyrowsky 31.
