Ferdinand Habsburg stays with Team WRT for the 2023 FIA WEC season

Ferdinand Habsburg returns to Team WRT for the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship season.

Habsburg joined Vincent Vosse’s team in 2020 and claimed the Belgian outfit’s maiden DTM pole and podium finish. In 2021, he remained with the team for their LMP2 debut and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA WEC LMP2 championship in his rookie season, amassing a total of three wins and four podium finishes. He stayed with WRT in 2022, joining a brand-new line-up, and even though he had a strong season claiming three podium finishes, including a victory at Monza, his title defence fell short.

Over the past three years, Team WRT became a second family to Ferdinand, so when the opportunity to stay with them for 2023 arose, he grabbed it with both hands.

He will be back in car 31, the one he drove to championship glory in 2021, together with his former teammate, LMP2 champion, Le Mans winner and FIA Formula E driver Robin Frijns, joined by two-times FIA WEC LMP2 vice-champion and Le Mans podium finisher Sean Gelael.

2023 marks the beginning of a new golden era in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The arrival of some of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, such as Ferrari, Porsche, and Cadillac, with Alpine, Lamborghini and BMW joining in 2024 with their Hypercars, will create the strongest and most competitive sports car grid in WEC history.

The 2023 FIA WEC calendar will consist of seven rounds across three different continents, including Sebring (USA), Bahrain, Fuji (JPN) and the greatest race on the motorsport calendar, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 2023 running will mark the 100-year anniversary of the iconic race.

Ferdinand Habsburg:
"I am buzzing to embark on season number four with my WRT Family! This level of continuity is rare in motorsport, and I am grateful for their trust in me. I’ve been part of WRT’s LMP2 project from the beginning, and I am excited to represent them in a historic season like this. I am stoked to be reunited with my good friend Robin and happy to share a car with my friend Sean. The #31 crew is going for the title, and I can't wait to hit the track in March! Thanks to my partners, REMUS Performance Sport Exhausts, AVL Racetech, Jansen Competition and Bell Racing for making it all happen!"

Jamie Campbell-Walter, Managing Director, Bullet Sports Management:
"We are delighted to continue our work with Team WRT. Ferdinand achieved some extraordinary results with them, and it is not over yet! Over the past two years, Ferdinand has become one of the most successful LMP2 drivers in the last few years, and he is with the right team to add more titles to his name. Thanks to Vincent and WRT for their trust.  We are looking forward to another great season together!"
