Cresswell and Rogeon win at Silverstone on Sunday, 13 points separate title contenders

Elite Motorsport’s McKenzy Cresswell and Rodin Motorsport’s Arthur Rogeon claimed victories on Sunday at Silverstone, as the championship fight tightened up further.

Cresswell earned his first win of the year in this morning’s contest, fending off a first lap challenge from championship leader Louis Sharp, while Rogeon took his second win of 2024 after taking the lead on the first lap of race three.

Race two
Cresswell started from the front again, having taken a double pole in qualifying. In a near mirror image of yesterday’s start, Rodin’s Sharp took the lead on the run to Copse, only for Cresswell to fight back at Maggotts/Becketts, the pair going wheel to wheel.

Like yesterday, that gave JHR’s John Bennett a chance to join the fight, but this time Cresswell toughed it around the outside of Stowe to regain the lead.  From there he pulled away to win by over two seconds from Sharp, with Bennett third following his victory yesterday.

Cresswell’s teammate Jarrod Waberski was fourth ahead of championship challenger Tymek Kucharczyk (Hitech Pulse-Eight) and Rodin’s Ugo Ugochukwu.

Race three
JHR’s Patrick Heuzenroeder started from pole, but Rogeon from second on the grid took the lead at Copse, while VRD Racing by Arden’s Shawn Rashid also found his way past the pole sitter.

After an early safety car, Rogeon controlled the restart well, pulling out a lead of three seconds to add a Silverstone win to his Hungarian triumph a few weeks ago. Rashid secured a maiden GB3 podium in his second season, while Kucharczyk moved past Elite’s Hugo Schwarze on the final lap to end a difficult weekend in third place, and gaining ground in the championship.

Schwarze finished fourth on the road having held a podium for much of the race after passing Heuzenroeder after the restart, but the German was penalised post-race for overtaking with all four wheels off the track, and dropped behind Bennett in the final result. Hitech’s Gerrard Xie completed the top-six, ahead of Sharp.

With just a quarter of the season to go, and events at Donington Park and Brands Hatch to decide the outcome of this year’s championship, Sharp holds a four point lead over Bennett at the top of the standings, with Kucharczyk only nine points further back.

Race two winner Cresswell said: "It feels good. It’s been too long! So really happy to get that weight off our shoulders. We’ve got good momentum now so I hope we can have a good final few rounds of the year. Hoping to keep the streak going.

"I didn’t get a great start, which didn’t help, but I put it all on the line in Maggots and Becketts and it paid off. So really happy to get the move done and then after that it was just about managing the gap and making sure I wasn’t taking too much out of the tyres because it’s really hot today. The car was amazing, can’t thank Elite enough."

Race three winner Rogeon said: "It was a good race, and a good result for the team. A good race because race one and two were a bit harder for me. So really happy to get again the top spot on the podium. It’s a nice F1 track, really fast and I loved it."
