After the WSK round in Salbris, the final rush for the top of EuroCup ranking for Teams is still engaging. Only one point up, Intrepid is always the leader in KZ2, whereas Tony Kart Junior Team leads both KF2 and KF3. But only two rounds from the season’s final, the pursuers have still lots of chances.
Attention is focused on the WSK Championships: the final rush is starting. There are only two rounds to go before the end of 2009 long tour of the WSK International karting series: Spanish circuit in Zuera (close to Zaragoza, on September 25) and the Italian track in Lonato, nearby Brescia (November 1), will be the settings for extraordinary races for the titles at stake. It is just what the unexpected results in Salbris (F), last Sunday, suggest. The Championship scoreboard takes into account also the score in the EuroCup for Teams, a challenge as thrilling as drivers’ one. French weekend was characterized by a few changes in that special contest for teams, where whatever prediction is difficult to make.
Intrepid withstands, Tony Kart launches an attack: it will be a heated KZ2 final in Zuera. Compared to the seasonal start, Dutch Bas Lammers (Intrepid-TM-Vega) and Italian Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) reversed their relative positions in KZ2. The top driver in white and green leads drivers ranking, but in EuroCup, Intrepid Kart Technology is still the leader, although with only one point lead by now. Therefore, the ultimate KZ2 challenge in Zuera will start with a clean slate. Moreover, the show is expected to be even more exciting, seeing that the team CRG returned to win powerfully. Team manager Giancarlo Tinini will deploy in Spain the “Armada” sparing no efforts, with Belgian Jonathan Thonon and Italian Davide Forè (Final’s winner and poleman in Pre-final, respectively), complemented by a third ace, French “Koko” Kozlinski. For CRG Spa, third in the ranking, going up 45 points won’t be easy, in consideration of the competitiveness Tony Kart is showing, and of an awaited Intrepid counter-attack. Birel Motorsport, PDB Racing Team and CRG Holland, ranking the three places below, have a more difficult task: their gap is larger though can still be made up.
Tony Kart Junior Team and Energy: a breathtaking pursuit in KF2. Both Tony Kart Junior Racing Team and Energy Corse leave France getting the same haul, thanks to the relative top drivers Ben Cooper and Joel Johansson (the latter dominating in Salbris): 75-77 constitutes the French score for the two teams, namely first and second in a EuroCup ranking showing unaltered positions. Anything can happen in the two remaining rounds and the chances for MGM Racing remain unchanged: although an unlucky Matteo Viganò got a poor result, Mauro Pozzi’s team is third, above Tony Kart Racing Team. The ranking is still open since there are many points to award in the next two rounds.
Three teams engaging in a battle in KF3, and Tony Kart is always at the top. In the tern of teams confronting each other for the top of KF3 ranking, Tony Kart Junior Team, scoring well in Salbris, thanks to Guillerme Silva and Carlos Sainz, takes now the lead. Chiesa Corse, with De Vries’ win, follows the team leader at the expenses of Morsicani Racing. After losing the lead, the Italian team from Latina is now third but is ready to counter at the next opportunity. Intrepid Junior Team is the only team, among pursuers who can enter the duel for victory: as a matter of fact, the two remaining KF3 rounds will award a considerable score as well.
